Rob Dolan Wines
Rob Dolan Wines is about “Real wine, real people, real character” and that is exactly what you will experience when visiting the cellar door in Warrandyte South, just 30 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD. The intimate space has been incorporated into the properties’ original Farmhouse which is set on over 100 acres of rolling farmland and vineyard.
The friendly and knowledgeable Cellar Door staff are on hand to guide visitors through a comprehensive tasting of the range of wines. Visitors are welcome to purchase wine to takeaway or enjoy on the deck. A selection of local produce including Stone and Crow Cheese is available seven days a week. Visitors are able to create their own cheese plate with accompaniments such as City Larder terrine and pate, Mount Zero Olives, Oil and Dukkha, The Farm Yarra Valley crackers and our very own range of pickles, pastes, jellies and relish.
In 2011 Rob purchased the Hardy’s Yarra Burn winery located in South Warrandyte. 2012 saw the release of the first Rob Dolan wines from vintage 2010 crafted from fruit grown by friends and grape growers who have supported Rob throughout his time in the Yarra Valley.
In 2013 Rob Dolan Wines was announced the 2014 Newcomer Winery of the Year at the James Halliday Australian Wine Companion Awards, one of four major awards on the night and in 2015 was awarded the illustrious five red star rating. The brand has continued to grow from strength to strength with a steady increase in production, with exports to China, Singapore, Hong Kong, UK and Canada driving demand and domestic distribution also picking up in key markets.
ROB DOLAN Managing Director/Winemaker | Rob’s first experience in the Yarra Valley was as senior Winemaker at Yarra Ridge winery, one of the success stories of the 90’s and the benchmark Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of its time. During this time Rob managed the entire Southern Victorian Winemaking operation for Mildara Blass (Fosters). Rob went on to build two contract winemaking ventures and in doing so launched two highly successful Yarra Valley brands – Sticks and Punt Road (“Sticks” being Rob’s nickname as a premiership ruckman with Port Adelaide Football Club.. don’t hold that against him!)
MARK NIKOLICH Senior Winemaker | Like most Arts students, Mark drank a lot of wine. It wasn’t long until he developed a curiosity about how it was made. After a barrage of phone calls and much pleading, Rob Dolan took a punt on the fresh-faced University Graduate and recruited him to work as a cellar hand in a brand new winery in the Strathbogie Ranges. Nearly 15 years later, Mark has travelled full circle and has returned to work with Rob once again. The intervening years have seen him take on various winemaking roles around the Yarra Valley, Bendigo and France.
Rob Dolan Wines strive to make fruit-driven, approachable, fresh and distinctly varietal wine styles that over-deliver in terms of quality and price and appeal to a wide market.
